FAVORITE THINGS & NOTES ON NEW YEARS

>> Wednesday, December 31, 2008

This adorable art print came to my mailbox all the way from Portland, Oregon courtesy of my friend Christopher Briggs Freeman and it's my favorite out of town friend Christmas present this year.

I'm having the hardest time getting back into the swing of things with work and such. I've finally gotten all of the dozens and dozens of packages that were paid for while I was out of town shipped out and will be listing 20 new vintage treats in the shop this Sunday. I have a big buying trip planned for Saturday and next week I hope to be back on track and listing my usual 40+ items a week.

It's hard to believe that 2009 is already upon us! I'm proud to say that I kept the 1 resolution that I made for 2008, which was to read at least 1 book a month. In fact, I probably read a lot more than that and know I devoured 4 awesome books just in the month of December alone. I haven't really given much thought to resolutions for 2009, but I know I'd like to stay more focused and organized.

I already have a styling job lined up for 2009 working on an album cover and am super excited about that. I also have some plans for MouseVox in 2009 that are super exciting! Expect to hear more on that later on.

For now though, I'm planning a New Years party and have a new Diane Von Furstenberg dress for the occaison, to boot! So, it's off to clean the house and get to cooking/baking for the rest of the day!

Hope you all have a fabulous NYE holiday and stay safe out there! See you in 09!

HOME FROM THE HOLIDAYS

>> Sunday, December 28, 2008

Check it out -----> www.whowhatwear.com named me a 'Myspace Muse' for the month. I really like the site, their points of interest and the different articles they post, so I guess this is kind of cool.

I got home from New York last night and plan to do nothing for the remainder of the day other than relax and catch up on some things that need to be done around the house. New York is one of my favorite cities in the world and it was a real treat to be able to spend Christmas there. I took a ton of pictures, which I'll be sharing later this week. For now, all I can think of is giving myself a lazy Sunday.

Hope you all have had happy holidays!

CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK

>> Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Hello! It's been awhile since I've had any free time to write in this blog. The holidays are a busy, busy time around here. I'm off this morning to New York for Christmas and am so ready for a week of much needed vacation. Of all of the times I've visited/stayed in New York, I've never really done the tourist thing, so I'm excited that I'll get to do some of that on this trip (i.e. I'm staying at the Waldorf, having Christmas Eve dinner at Tavern on the Green and am going to Radio City Music Hall on Christmas day - the picture above is of the rockettes practicing in the 20's). So, I hope you all enjoy your holidays! And, if you feel like doing a little post-holiday online shopping, I did sotck up the shop this Sunday with a round of vintage goodness for you all!

NEW LOOK!

>> Wednesday, December 10, 2008

The MouseVox Shop has a new look and a new color palette for Winter. Check it out! I hope everyone likes it - I'm really happy with it! Hopefully this week I'll be able to give my blog, Myspace & Modepass pages a facelift, but we'll see. Tomorrow, I'll be listing lots of new vintage goodies including some seriously killer party dresses just in time for New Years. The agenda for the weekend is full of parties, celebrations and the like, so it may be next week before I can get around to re-designing the rest of my social networking sites.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

>> Monday, December 8, 2008

I always enjoy reading other peoples' blog posts where they share pictures and stories behind their thrifted treasures and coveted heirlooms, so here's my go at it!

The clutch in the picture above is one of my favorites. It isn't thrifted, but rather belonged to my grandmother. I was very fortunate to inherit an immaculate collection of vintage wears and the like when she passed (and also many things that she handed down to me during her living years) that I truly cherish. This clutch is no exception and is something I'm sure I'll highly covet for the rest of my years.

I found this bracelet at an antique store here in Nashville a few months ago. I really don't wear it as much as I should, but love the way it looks sitting amongst several other bracelets I've collected over the years in a jewelry dish in my studio. I have pretty tiny wrists and have a hard time finding bracelets that don't fall off the second I put them on. This bracelet doesn't do that, but I think I just don't wear it a lot because I'm not used to wearing bracelets. I should probably change that.

This little floral pendant is one of my very favorite things I've ever found. It's really simple and not terribly rare or anything, but I'm able to wear it with so much and it feels just right on. Plus, it also has a pin on the back, so it can be worn 2 different ways! I found it at the This n' That thrift store in Nashville.

So there it is! My very first 'favorite things' post. I hope you enjoyed!

I'd also like to give a big thanks to my girl, Pamela, at Market Publique for featuring one of the pencil skirts up for grabs in my shop in her blog.

NEW IN THE SHOP + A SNEAK PEEK

>> Saturday, December 6, 2008

The MouseVox Shop is bursting at the seams with some of the most seriously adorable vintage ever! Some of what's pictured above is already in the shop and more is on the way for Sunday. I re-thought posting all of my listings on one night and decided to break it up into 2 updates, as I was worried that I may get behind on shipping (one of my biggest pet peeves). So, I'll be listing my new items on Thursday and Sunday nights and they'll run for 10 days. I also listed the dress I was wearing in this post. I found another dress that I loved just as much, but fit me a little better and decided to keep it instead.

I went on a very successful buying trip today that's left me exhausted (9 hours & 4 towns of shopping, ladies!), so I've decided to be a good little mouse by staying in and having some me time. Last night started the weekend off by watching El Topo, which kind of confused me until my film school grad boyfriend explained it to me and showed me an interview with Alejandro Jodorowsky that made me feel better about not feeling as 'with it' as I thought I should. None the less, I found it to be a captivating and beautiful film even before I knew what in the world was going on. To counter-balance my El Topo confusion, the agenda tonight is to to watch 1990's teen tv drama on dvd that will surely make me feel smarter than smart!

DAILY WARES - CHANGE

>> Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Oversized cardigan: American Apparel
Tights: American Apparel
Boots: Vintage / Thrifted
Scarf: Vintage / Hand me down gift from Mom
Beret: Target
Earrings: I have no idea - someone left these at my house during the last party that I had. I've cleaned them and worn them a few times, but will be happy to clean them again and return them if they belong to you and you want them back.

All of the leaves are starting to fall off of the trees in my backyard, covering nearly every inch of dying grass. I like this because it reminds me that Winter is on its way. I don't necessarily love cold weather, but I do love change! I really appreciate little, evolutive signs like this because it makes me feel like something exciting is about to happen. I'm not really sure why this is, but I hope my inclinations serve us all correct. Regardless, I've got a good feeling about Winter this year!
