It's a 2-for-1 outfit post today! Maybe this will make up for the extreme lack of outfits posts I've been doing so far this year. Truth be told, I've just not been that inspired to dress all that creatively this Winter - which is kind of a shame since I have a true love for layering. Now that the weather is starting to get a little warmer here in Nashville (albeit schizophrenically), I've actually felt more like experimenting with my dress and getting out in the sunshine - probably because there's actually been somewhat consistent sunshine here for a couple of weeks now.
ANYWAY - I went to a lovely little estate sale this week and, while I didn't really find anything for the shop, I did pick myself up a few presents. The picture on the left is what I wore to the sale and, in the righthand picture, I'm wearing a pair of gloves that I purchased at the sale itself. Apparently, when I wear my bangs pulled back, I have a twin because the lady who checked me out said, "You're back"! And when I explained to her that I had just gotten there she said that there was a girl who looked like me, who was wearing the same coat as I (not pictured above) and she also had the same mannerisms and sound of voice as I do, too. Very strange and somewhat creepy, but still an entertaining notion. What I hope is that my twin made out with some awesome vintage clothing finds because the place was pretty much wiped out other than a couple of furs when I made it on the scene. I really need to start getting up earlier for these things, but what can I say - waking up is hard to do.
Above are my favorite estate sale finds from this week's adventure. I'm particularly smitten by the kint cap and, of course, the little pairs of crocheted gloves. The YSL hat needs to be cleaned, but at $10 I couldn't pass it up. I'm still deciding weather or not to keep it or sell it.
Check out my Flickr to see closer detailed shots of my newfound treasures.

All of the goodies pictured above & many more are now up for grabs in the MouseVox eBay Shop! Take a peek - we've got a lil' something for everyone with lots of different sizes and 1 seriously pretty Emilio Pucci slip dress that I personally am in love with.

Last weeks thrifting adventures proved to be very eventful in that I not only found some killer pieces for the shop, but some for myself as well. The embroidered bluebird picture perches perfectly on a shelf in my kitchen alongside a couple of new feathered friends - the embroidered owl picture was purchased from a minor thread a couple of years ago and the ceramic owl bank was found at a flea market so long ago i can't remember (more than 5 years).
I was also super delighted to find the vintage sewing box pictured above. It even had some old wooden thread spools still in it! I plan to use it to transport tools for crafting affairs at my lady friends' houses (nashville girls - let's stop talking about this and get something going again soon).

All of the items above and more are now up for grabs in the MouseVox eBay shop! We've also put 'buy it now' options on every auction for those of you who don't want to wait or just don't like dealing with auctions - some of the items that were listed last night and Monday have already been purchased, so if you see something you like, grab it up before someone else does!

From www.londonfashionweek.co.uk: February 2009 welcomes the sixth season of estethica. What started as a BFC initiative to promote the best in British eco-sustainable fashion has now evolved to become the epicentre for London's ethical fashion industry. estethica offers a unique chance for like-minded companies to come together, network and inspire emerging designers with a conscience. This is evident in the rapid growth of the BFC initiative: fifteen new labels joined for Spring/Summer 2009 alone. estethica provides a feeling of community and education about fairtrade, eco and ethical fashion design at The Exhibition at London Fashion Week.
Now, this is something to get excited about! One of my favorite things about vintage wares is the simple fact that it's such a sustainable form of style. Seeing earth conscious efforts on the runway is so inspiring & uplifting. Thank you, BFC!

Here's a peek at some of the seriously cute finds in the MouseVox eBay shop this week! I didn't have a whole lot of time to list as many things as usual, but what I did have time to list is particularly awesome, so be sure to check it out! I also gave the blog a minor facelift so that it matches up with the store a little better. It's simple, but I'm pleased. Tomorrow will be a major shopping day for inventory, so I'm staying in on this Friday night and being a good little mouse. Hooray for the weekend!

If you've recently been following this blog, then you already know just how much I love the site, Queens of Vintage. So, when Lena, the brainchild behind the daily global glossy I look forward to checking out on a daily basis, asked me if she could interview me for the site, you know I jumped right in with a big, "HECK YES!". I had a lot of fun with this interview, so be sure to check it out!

Back in the day when I had a job in an office that I had to leave the house for and actually make myself get somewhat dressed up 5 days a week, I used to wear outfits like this a lot (sans hat & gloves). Those days are 3 years past with no regrets, though I sometimes miss having to wake up early everyday and put on proper office attire (well, maybe not so much the waking up early part). I actually had the skirt & sweater on with another top and was wearing ankle boots rather than heels earlier in the day, but fell madly in love with the vintage shell top when I put it on to take pictures to sell it. So, it's a keeper and I didn't even trade it for something in my own closet to put in the shop!
In response to my last post & photoshoot, I've gotten several emails from concerned viewers over the fact that I'm draped in real fur. This really couldn't make me happier, as it's so refreshing to see/hear young women voicing their opinions and standing up for something they believe in - you go, girls! In my defense though, the only furs that I actually own are vintage & are heirlooms passed down from my grandmother & great-grandmother. I look at them as very special treasures, but I can also see the other side of the coin. The ethics on vintage fur are indeed a grey area, left open to a lot of different interpretations and scrutinized by many. While I don't actually own any furs that I wear/use other than for photoshoots, I do occaisonally sell vintage furs in my shop and I don't really feel too terrible about that. Bleubird Vintage wrote an excellent article on vintage fur that I highly agree with, specifically mentioning that for every VINTAGE fur purchased a NEW fur is left hanging on the racks, thus further protecting the animals of TODAY.
So, with all of this fur fuss, I've been left wondering how many of you anti-fur advocates wear leather shoes, wool or cashmere? Do you consider these particular textiles, all of which use animals in some way, as fashionably futile as fur or are there differences? I'm curious and want to know, so don't be shy - speak up and let me hear your opinions. As I said before, nothing makes me more happy than to see strong-minded, young women who aren't afraid to voice thier opinions!

Hello, hello! Last week was a super busy one for this little mouse. We shot our February 09 editorial shoot, Animalistic, which can be seen on my Flickr. The shot above that I'm now using as my store header in eBay is from the shoot and another shot from the series was used as an ad that's currently running in Prim Magazine. If you haven't checked out Prim before, I highly suggest you do so. Lots of excellent photography and interesting, well written articles.
I also worked on a super fun, non-MouseVox related project with an amazing photographer and graphic designer for an album cover doing wardrobe and a little bit of modeling. I'm not sure when the results will be ready, but hopefully I'll have something to share with you all soon. If anything, I'm sure I'll be able to see the shots that are going to be used for the cover, but I'm sure they won't look anything like the finished product.
I don't anticipate this week to be so busy, so hopefully I'll be a better blogger and be able to spend some time on some things that have fallen by the wayside - such as the dozens of photographs I took from New York that are still waiting patiently to be uploaded to my computer (sorry, anonymous commenter who asked about them last week and said they were looking forward to seeing them!).
Also, I've got a lil' surpise trick up my sleeve that I'll be revealing at the end of the week, so stay tuned!
