MY FAVORITE THINGS

>> Wednesday, November 11, 2009

This past weekend, Lauren and I ventured out into the early Saturday morning hours (well, 10 AM, but that's considerably early, right?!) to go on a major thrifting binge...

My own thrifting adventure proved to be beyond successful!
I found so many killer pieces for the shop as well as some new additions to my home...

I am particularly smitten by this ceramic statue of two puppies that are obviously very much in love...

I collect embroidered/needlepoint artwork and these two pieces are perfect additions...

And look at these stockings! Still in the original packaging and unopened.
I haven't decided yet if I should keep them and never wear them or sell them on Etsy...

To end the day, I decided to be brave and let Lauren give me a much needed haircut. I think she did a wonderful job, especially considering she's an art school teacher and not an actual stylist.
Now, I just need to change the color - it's way too natural for my liking!

I gave the blog a facelift today and, after tweaking code for too many hours, I'm very pleased!
Unfortunately, I neglected to add new vintage to the shop, as I had hoped.
I'll just have to makeup for it tomorrow by listing twice as much amazingness!

XO - Rachel

Self Portrait, Digital, Inspired by the desire to teleport

This weekend:

I spent some much needed girl time with my sweet Lauren.
I went on a HUGE buying trip and found so many treasures!
I got a fancy new garment steamer.
I took an entire day for myself on Sunday to sew and watch movies and nap.
I missed my boyfriend and wanted to teleport myself to his arms (2 more weeks!).

This week:

I am not going to neglect the blog like I did last week!
I'm playing 'catch up' on Mousevox related things since I went out of town last week.
Our flights have been booked and we'll be spending the holidays in New England! Brrrr!!!
I am a list making machine!
I have a lunch date with one of my favorite gals whom I haven't seen in forever!
Your gonna get so excited when you see all of the new vintage popping up in the shops!

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

>> Tuesday, November 3, 2009

I'm off to Huntsville, AL this afternoon for a lil' daytrip. Despite what this picture might say about the kind of traveler I am, I do in fact travel very lightly - my vintage, yellow leather American Tourister is usually all I need and all I'm carrying aboard today. I'll be seeing my boyfriend play a show with his band tonight. In retropect it seems kind of silly that I was in such a melancholic state about his departure for tour yesterday morning, but good-byes are never really easy in any capacity. I'm kind of excited to see Huntsville. I have a sincere love sickness for southern America and am expecting to spy some interesting sights along my solo drive. I always think of things like ghosts and fortune tellers when my imagination gears towards the south, so maybe if I'm lucky I'll have a paranormal experience to tell about or good juju to bring home with me tomorrow afternoon.

Oh! Pssst....vintage auctions ending tonight!

Self-portrait, Digital + Super-imposed, Inspired by: My heart and the need for a haircut

This weekend:

Was so SPOOKY (but really laid back compared to Halloweens past).
We carved jack-o-lanterns.
I roasted pumpkin seeds.
We passed out candy to so many CUTE trick-or-treaters!
I made pumpkin cupcakes using the puree from our jack-o-lanterns.
We opted for scarey movies at home instead of pub crawls and parties.
I stocked up on enough hugs and kisses to last me for 3 weeks.

This week:

My boyfriend left on a mid-west tour with his band for 3 weeks.
I am feeling a little sad.
But I'm also feeling excited about the free time I'll have to work on so many fun projects!
I'm going to Hunstville, Alabama (can anyone recommend good vintage scavenging for me in that area?).
I won't be updating the shop on Tuesday, as usual, since I'll be out of town.
I'll resume with our regular listing schedule on Thursday.
I'll be stocking the Etsy shop with so many seriously should not be missed pieces.
I'm going to make pumpkin soup using the remaining pumpkin puree!

That is all...
HAPPY MONDAY!

SPOOKY MID-WEEK INSPIRATION - LEADING LADIES OF HORROR

>> Wednesday, October 28, 2009

'Tis the season to get scarey and what better way than by curling up on the couch with your favorite horror movies (with a blanket to hide under for protection, of course!). Here are some of my favorite horror movies' leading ladies...

Mia Farrow as Rosemary Woodhouse in Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Marilyn Burns as Sally Hardesty in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Jessica Harper as Suzy Banyon in Suspiria (1977)

Tippi Hedron as Melanie Daniels in The Birds (1963)

Shelley Duvall as Wendy Torrance in The Shining (1980)

Bette Davis as Charlotte in Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte (1964)

What are some of your favorite scarey movies? Or, if getting scared isn't your cup of tea, then how are you celebrating Halloween this year?
